Santo Scala Mora the Italian-Venezuelan cellist was born in Trujillo, Venezuela, in 1998 into a family of musicians. His father, a cellist, luthier and conductor, is the one who trained him when he was young and instilled in him discipline and a love of music.
He has devoted himself to the cello since the age of 11, as a student of Santo Scala Bastidas, Florin Safner (Romania) and Valmore Nieves. In 2010 he joined the social project "El Sistema" for musical education in Venezuela. Due to the Venezuelan learning system, he played in various orchestras early on and in 2017 became a member of the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, which was conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and José António Abreu.
He participated in the 2020 Ilumina Festival in Brazil, where musicians from all over Latin America come together and perform an extensive repertoire of chamber music with international soloists such as Liza Ferschtman, Christian Poltera, Yura Lee and Jennifer Stumm.
He moved to Brazil, where he was part of the "Academy of the State Symphony Orchestra of São Paulo" conducted by Marin Alsop and Thierry Fischer, as well as being tutored by that orchestra's first cellist, Rodrigo Andrade.
In August 2021 he traveled to Salzburg to participate in the "Academy for the Impact Through Music" together with the Illumina Festival in the development of musical social projects. He is currently studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, in the class of Professor Julian Arp.
