José Gabriel Piña, Austrian-Venezuelan violist, began playing the viola at the age of eight with “El Sistema”. In 2008 he became a member of the National Youth Orchestra “Teresa Carreño” under conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel and Sir Simon Rattle. He has taken part in master classes with Alexander Zemtsov, Wolfgang Klos and Johannes Meissl, among others. In 2011 he came to Vienna (lesson with Georg Hamann) and later studied at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt with Wolfgang Wölfer-Roth and Firmian Lermer. He has played on Asian tours (China, Korea, Japan) and in world-famous halls such as the Vienna Musikverein, Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw and Vienna State Opera. In 2019 he won the audition for the orchestra of the Košice City Theatre.
In 2020 he founded the Goldmark Quartet (active for five years), in 2021 the Goldmark Chamber Music Association in Vienna and in 2022 organized the first Viennese String Seminar.
That same year, his quartet was invited to the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, where he took chamber music lessons with Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartet), Miguel Da Silva (Ysaÿe Quartet), and Yossif Ivanov. He is currently completing his master's degree in viola with Marc Sabbah in Mons, Belgium. He is a regular guest musician in the Bühne Baden orchestra and currently plays in numerous chamber music ensembles throughout Europe.
